An original pair of Bauhaus-style armchairs produced in Poland in the late 1940s to early 1950s by the Wschód – Zadziele furniture factory. Located in Zadziele (Lesser Poland), the factory was an important manufacturer of bentwood and modernist furniture. Before World War II it produced furniture under Thonet licence, and after 1945, as a nationalised enterprise, it continued manufacturing modernist pieces inspired by functionalism and Bauhaus principles.
The armchairs are built on a chromed tubular steel frame, a hallmark of Bauhaus design, combining visual lightness with excellent structural stability. The chrome elements have been carefully polished and are preserved in very good condition, with no pitting or corrosion. The seats are spring-based, providing a high level of comfort alongside the architectural form.
The armrests and leg ends are made of solid beech wood and finished with traditional shellac polish, highlighting the natural grain and giving the wooden elements a refined, period-correct appearance.
The upholstery was completely recreated during restoration using a high-quality fabric with a geometric, modernist pattern that directly references Bauhaus aesthetics and utilitarian design of the 1940s and 1950s. The rhythmic graphic composition and restrained colour palette harmonise with the chromed steel and warm tone of the wood, achieving a balanced dialogue between historical authenticity and a fresh visual presence.
The armchairs have undergone a full professional restoration in our workshop and are stable, fully functional, and ready for everyday use. They are well suited to modernist, vintage, loft, and contemporary interiors, where they can serve as both comfortable seating and a strong design statement.
