A "must have" for any herpetologist or just someone who appreciates snakes. Here is a set of four original lithographic plates from the 1859 publication "United States and Mexican Boundary Survey". The Boundary Survey is a masterwork of Western and American History. It was the official report of the U.S. Boundary Commission upon completing its work of surveying and mapping the United States-Mexican boundary at the conclusion of the U.S.-Mexican War in 1848. Spencer F. Baird, Assistant Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution, specialized in identifying the reptiles of the region. Published in Washington, D.C. in 1859.
These four lithographs measure 7 1/2" x 10" and are matted and enclosed in black metal frames 11" x 14" under glass. There is some minor foxing on a couple but overall, they are in excellent condition with great detail. Hung together, they make an interesting statement and certain to capture everyone's attention.
