THis is a standing rectangular wooden box from the Arts and Crafts period, featuring finely executed geometric inlays in varying shades forming a bold pattern across the body, The design reflects the movement's emphasis on craftsmanship and natural materials. Its date is likely to be early 20th century. It embodies the simple elegance and integrity of design characteristic of the Arts and Crafts movement.
The box seems to be lovingly made by a craftsman who picked sturdy hardware for the handle and hinges. The wood pieces he used were neatly prepared to fit into the design. Some of the dark woods could be mahogany, the light wood maple and the reddish wood cherry.
