An extremely elegant early Victorian English Chaise Longue with a serpentine front, framed in rosewood, dating from circa 1855.
Purchased in England in 1985 and imported to the US later that year, this luxurious chaise exemplifies the sophisticated workmanship of Victorian furniture makers, with curved lines, velvet upholstery, and a solid rosewood frame intricately carved in various foliate motifs.
Graceful in shape, the chaise is upholstered in plush golden velvet fabric, featuring a rounded deep-buttoned backrest extending into a comfortable left armrest with a continuing carved back rail, an upswept scrolled right-end arm with a descending serpentine front leg, and short cabriole back legs.
The chaise rests on strong rosewood legs mounted on solid casters. It is in very good antique condition, retaining its original color and patination.
