These highly detailed and colorful designs reflect the height of baroque decorative art, combining allegory, heraldry, floral ornament, and architectural grandeur. Originally created for elite interiors under the reign of louis xiv, such patterns would have adorned ceilings, overdoor panels, and boiseries in palaces, salons, and academic institutions. The main image at the top features a ceiling panel of striking complexity and elegance. A central medallion bearing a crown over crossed scepters sits against a black background with lavish floral scrolls in pink, turquoise, and gold. Surrounding it are octagonal medallions showing miniature landscapes and natural motifs, such as birds and shells, adding a narrative and symbolic richness to the decorative field. The borders are adorned with curling acanthus, floral garlands, and rococo-esque volutes. Below, additional panels offer variations of allegorical and mythological wall designs. A reclining female figure dressed in green is framed by elaborate golden architecture, while adjacent panels show a blue cherub in a medallion and griffins guarding a classical frieze. At the bottom center is a gilded medallion with a crowned blue orb framed by laurel leaves and military trophies, possibly alluding to royal power and glory. This plate was lithographed by durin and printed by firmin-didot around 1869 in paris. It was part of auguste racinet’s influential multi-volume publication, *l'ornement polychrome*, which brought together historical designs from around the world and revived interest in historicist decoration during the 19th-century design reform movement. Its historical, symbolic, and artistic richness makes this print an ideal reference for collectors, interior historians, and decorative artists. Condition: excellent overall. The colors are bold and saturated, with only slight age toning in the outer margins. No foxing, tears, or repairs. Printed on thick, high-quality paper with a strong impression. Framing tips: choose a gold or dark wood frame to echo the regal baroque tone. A cream or soft green mat will complement the rich colors and draw attention to the decorative complexity. Perfect for classical, theatrical, or luxurious interiors. Technique: chromolithograph maker: durin after racinet, paris, c.1869 See less
