A hand-tinted engraved English music sheet dating circa 1780. Professionally framed in the mid-20th century with a deep velvet mat, gold gilt liner, and gilded frame, this piece was originally styled for a New York collector, as noted on the verso. The sheet remains in very good condition with even age toning and vivid hand-coloring. Dimensions: Sheet: 5" W x 8.25" H · Framed: 10" W x 13" H. Offering:
“A Favourite Song”
An original hand-colored copperplate engraving, circa 1780–1800, titled "A Favourite Song". The sheet features engraved notation and lyrics with a pastoral vignette of a solitary gentleman in the countryside. The restrained color palette and delicate linework reflect the refined tastes of Georgian England.
✨ Collector’s Note:
Titled simply "A Favourite Song", this engraving reflects the universal appeal of ballads from the late 1800s. Engravings such as this were designed to be both performed and displayed as art, offering a window into the domestic musical life of the 1700s.
Provenance:
Originally framed in the mid-20th century for Mrs. H. A. Eggerss of New York City, likely a relative of a prominent paper-mill family with operations in Wisconsin, Michigan, and North Carolina. From a Pinehurst, NC estate in The Country Club of North Carolina, where the deceased owner most likely inherited these from a relative.

Frame shows light wear consistent with age. Paper backing is becoming brittle and or loose commensurate with age. The hand-tinting is more colorful than pictured because we had to shoot through glass. Not inspected out of frame. The left lower corner of the frame is slightly damaged, see photo. less
