The surface is finely detailed with a gilt dragon winding sinuously around the body of the vase, depicted in traditional Chinese style with scaled body, flaming whiskers, and clawed limbs. Surrounding the dragon are stylized golden flames and cloud motifs, executed in fine raised gilt enamel. A Greek key border, also in gold, encircles both the flared rim and the circular foot, framing the decorative scene with classical symmetry. The interior of the vase is lined with lustrous mother-of-pearl glaze and further embellished with the intricate "Papillon" border design. This consists of gold-over-enamel geometric trellis work and fan motifs alternating with stylized foliage. Marked with the Wedgwood Portland Vase backstamp.
