Ship lanterns played a crucial role in communication and safety at sea, especially before the creation of modern navigation technology.

This lantern is a navigation light so would have either been used as a masthead light (placed high on the mast to indicate presence) or an anchor light (used when anchored at night).

This light is in its original condition with original glass and interior elements. Commonly these are converted into modern lights with simple electrical wiring, that can be done easily. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
