Offered is a beautiful pair of antique majolica plates featuring raised grapevine and leaf design with rich turquoise, cobalt blue and green glazes accented by pink grape clusters. The borders are deeply textured with a repeating foliate pattern, characteristic of Villeroy & Boch's high-quality majolica of the period.
MAKER'S MARK: Villeroy & Boch "central rosette/starburst maker's mark" and numbers
CIRCA: The rosette/starburst mark was used during 1870s-1900

- Good antique condition with expected wear for over 120 years old. On the fronts the vivid glaze colors remain bright. … moreGood antique condition with expected wear for over 120 years old. On the fronts the vivid glaze colors remain bright. There are several small glaze flakes and surface chips along the outer and inner decorative borders. Minor light scratching to the surface consistent with display and age. Backsides are both impressed with mold numbers and maker's mark is legible. Several rim flakes and edge wear particularly around the turquoise-glazed foot rim. There are 2 chips on the back rim of one plate exposing the gray/white ceramic.
