The four sides are decorated with finely drawn and detailed scenes of red and blue roosters amid flowering trees and shrubs, with an inscription including the artist's signature in blue, caoshu script and one seal mark. A blue, Yuan Wen Wu Guo Zhi Zhai mark in Zhuanshu script is glazed to the inset base. Circa Republic of China period. Excellent vintage condition.

Yuan Wen Wu Guo Zhi Zhai: Studio Where I Want to Hear My Faults. Studio name of Jingdezhen painter, Wang Bu (1898 - 1968), one of the "Eight Friends of Zhushan", a former, imperial kiln site and a nickname for Jingdezhen proper. These eight painters began organizing in 1927 and met once a month as the "Full Moon Group" later adding two more members. See less
