This impressive antique mirror was hand-carved in Italy circa 1770 and exemplifies the bold grandeur of the Baroque period. Crafted from richly detailed giltwood, the original 18th Century frame features dramatic relief carving with stylized acanthus scrolls, fan-shells, and foliate motifs, hallmarks of mid-18th Century Italian craftsmanship. The surface is finished in warm gold leaf, enhancing the sculptural depth and ornamental flourishes.
The mirror’s substantial proportions and architectural presence make it a commanding focal point, whether displayed vertically or horizontally. The piece is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use; the mirror plate and backing have been replaced, while the original 18th Century carved giltwood frame remains beautifully preserved, with wonderful age, character, and decorative impact. A striking and authentic Baroque mirror with exceptional scale and presence.
