Could you do this? (without training since prepubescence?). Petit point roughly translates from the French as tiny dots. Think pixels. It takes a very fine mesh base to achieve this fluid a composition. The task of making an image of a classic, curved fluted vase out of tiny squares presents a challenge. But then "fill" it with a mix of carnations, roses, and peonies, as part of an assortment of posies, drooped over on curving stems and mixed in trailing greenery, well, you're in training for the Olympics Patience Event.
This design was likely worked using the tent stitch, with silk or fine wool yarn on a fine-mesh canvas. How else to achieve this intricate floral design enhanced for realism with subtle shading? But then, someone had to do it twice.
