The Chinese serpentine itself is from approximately the late Qing Dynasty, maybe older. There is a particular type of Chinese jadestone (Chinese serpentine) that can shapeshift between the two kinds of Western-defined jade (Nephrite & Jadeite.) Yet, it is not considered jade in modern definition despite being the original jade used by the Chinese since the Neolithic period.

The translucent Chinese serpentine is pierced and carved to resemble a butterfly. The hand-carving is accurate and artistically done. The jade has a nice yellowish-green jade color and a filigree gold frame.

The pendant measures approximately 55.04 mm x 21.79 mm x 5.74 mm, weighing 28.4 grams.
