He stated that the pot was purchased … Read more We purchased this piece from a colleague specializing in Amazonian art and antiquities. He stated that the pot was purchased in the 1970s by a friend traveling in the region of production. It is clearly of Tarahumara origins with typical ceramic composition, coil construction, and rawhide strapping. Note that there appears to be an ethnographic repair on the lip of the pot, suggesting it has seen native use. The vessel is from the Copper Canyon region of central Mexico and is wrapped about the body with sinew. The Tarahumara are the largest indigenous group north of Mexico City, save for the Navajo (Diné). The vessel is approximately 12" tall, 34.25" around, and 10.9" across. Stand not included. See less
