The Windsor “comb-back” chair became popular in the United States, during the Federal period (1780 through 1820)—they were prized for their simple elegance, durability and versatility.
The comb-back had an extended crest rail that provided additional support and aesthetic appeal, along with their spindle backs, splayed legs and saddle-shaped seats—they definitely commanded attention!
This Windsor comb-back, still had its “tag” in place and all of its original parts—which is almost unheard of for these chairs—as the “combs” have usually been broken off, throughout the decades of use!
The seat height is 15”H x 14”W x 14.75”D, the arm chair height is 23.5”, and this chair is really light—only weighing 11lbs!
