This is an antique, circa 1900, Later Victorian to Edwardian era, dark stain oak wood, press back, armed rocking chair, with carved wood spindles.
"Press back" was a method of steam pressing a design into wood, as opposed to hand carving the wood. This allowed for higher production rates and less intense labor and labor costs.
The crest rail (top of seat back) design is scrolling acanthus. Even the legs of the rocker have elegant press back designs on them.
The gently curved and wide seat allow for comfortable seating for both large and small people.
The wooden rockers are silent and operate smoothly, even at 125 years of age.
