Bismarck … Read more A wonderful antique circa very early 1900s silver plated ice bucket made for the Bismarck Garden in Chicago, Illinois! Bismarck Garden Opened in 1896 and almost immediately became a hotspot for dining, live music, and dancing in Chicago. Inside the garden was a grad bar, restaurant, concert hall, and theater, and outside was seating and dancing room for up to 4500 people! In 1916, they added an ice cooled indoor dining room called The Merigold Room with a dance floor that could accommodate 450 couples, making it the grandest and most sought after summer dance hall in Chicago at the time. With mounting pressure as the US entered World War I the name was changed in 1917 from the German-inspired Bismarck Garden to Marigold Garden. This helps date the bucket as pre-1917. The final few images are postcards and a program I came across while researching Bismarck Garden, these are shown just as historical artifacts and are not included with purchase.

In great condition for its age, no dents or damage, just lots of small bumps, marks and signs of use. The silver plating is in great condition with a light vintage patina, slight wear in one spot on the outside and some additional wear at the inside bottom from sitting water, lots of little scratches and ice pick marks.

The bucket measures approximately 7.5 inches across by almost 5 inches tall. See less
