This large antique Yoruba beaded diviner’s sash or panel originates from Nigeria and was hand-crafted for ceremonial use within traditional Yoruba religious practices. Such panels were used by babalawos (diviners) during Ifá divination rituals, serving as both a visual aid and spiritual tool for communicating with the divine.
Made from cotton textile and adorned with hand-applied glass beads, the piece displays stylized imagery—often including faces, animals, and cowrie shell motifs—symbolizing spiritual entities, prosperity, and ancestral wisdom. The craftsmanship reflects deep spiritual and artistic traditions unique to Yoruba culture.
While traditionally worn or displayed by diviners, this panel is now also appreciated as a collectible work of African art, suitable for display as a wall hanging or centerpiece in ethnographic or textile collections.
