Pair of 18th Century Italian figural carved stone corbels featuring cherubs, or putti heads, with delicately rendered wings, volutes, and scrolling acanthus motifs. Heavy stone is hand-carved, and the Baroque influence is evident in the dynamic curves, expressiveness, and robust detailing. These sculptural elements were not merely decorative, but were also imbued with spiritual symbolism. Wonderful wear and patina.
They could be used today as decorative wall sculptures, mantel brackets, or stand alone art pieces in both the traditional and modern interiors. They weigh over 50 pounds each.
