One of blin’s signature moody glazes — a misty blue with cloudy, mottled patina — provides a hauntingly beautiful backdrop to his playful, almost primitive engraved decoration. The interior features two stylised figures in blin’s distinctive sgraffito technique. These whimsical, otherworldly forms speak to the artist’s interest in prehistoric, tribal, and fantastical iconography — making his work both intellectually rich and visually engaging. The bowl’s organic irregularity and tactile finish highlight blin’s role as a key figure in the mid-century french studio ceramics movement in vallauris. A superb example of his enigmatic visual language. The piece is in good overall condition. It is signed on the underside of the ceramic along with the number 169. An i deal acquisition for jacques blin collectors and for those who love mid-century french ceramics. Please enjoy the many photos accompanying this listing. Upon request a video will be provided. Dimensions: h 11 cm / 4.3" dia 29 cm / 11.4" about the artist: jacques blin (1920-1995) was an engineer by trade but with a love for the visual arts. Blin has an immediately recognisable style characterised by a more or less misty appearance of the glaze and by decoration deeply marked in the raw clay, a method he used throughout his career. He frequently depicted fanciful birds, primitive animals, stylised figures and whimsical abstract motifs in his works which are almost always signed "j. Blin". A comprehensive book of the works of jacques blin has been released in both french and english: 'jacques blin, ceramiste & porteur d'histoires' by christine lavenu. See less
