The interior is decorated with a finely carved scene of He Xiangu, the only female member of The Baxian, (The Eight Immortals), in the heavens walking on auspicious clouds (xiangyun) and swinging a basket of lotus, peach, plum and chrysanthemum flowers updside downso that some of the flowers are falling to earth. The exterior is black lacquer covered with spider web cracks while the inset base is covered in a large pattern craquelure. A six-character, Qianlong, reign mark is carved to the center of the inset base. The Traditional, Chinese, hongmu plate stand is included. Circa Republic of China era or later.

He Xiangu: Among the Eight Immortals, "Only one is a woman, holding a lotus flower, of unparalleled beauty, known as the Immortal Maiden." Her magical weapon is a lotus flower.

Record of He Xiangu
The Immortal Maiden was from Zengcheng, named He Tai's daughter. She was born during the Kaiyao period of the Tang Dynasty. A purple cloud surrounded her house, and there was a white mark on her forehead. See less
