An outstanding earthenware pottery dish
A great example of the Mexican Folk Art produced in the renown ceramics center in Coyotepec, Oaxaca
A nicely shaped pitcher made of black clay aka barro negro
It features intricate floral and leaf designs etched into its surface. This type of pottery is famous for its distinct black and shiny finish, achieved through a unique polishing and firing technique developed by Doña Rosa Real Mateo de Nieto (1900-1980) in the 1950s. She discovered that polishing the clay with a quartz stone before it was completely dry and firing it at a slightly lower temperature than traditional methods would produce this characteristic sheen
