A large and atmospheric mid-century landscape that presents a tranquil riverside scene with a subtle narrative undertone, executed in oil onto canvas and dated 1952.

Two figures rest on the grassy bank of a still canal, their gazes drawn toward a moored boat and a drawbridge in the distance. The composition is balanced by low farm buildings on the left and the soft sprawl of countryside under a cool, clouded sky.

Executed in a loose, expressive style, the brushwork is thick and confident, capturing texture and movement, especially in the turbulent sky and reflective water. The palette is dominated by muted tones: steely blues, sage greens, earthy browns, and soft greys, evoking a moody, contemplative atmosphere.
