Large Federal pier mirror circa 1800.
This powerful example is done an architectural form in gilt on gesso over carved wood. The shaped overhang molded cornice is above acorn finials and steps above a leafage molding over a freeze of a carved shell flanked by rosettes. Below to either side carved leafage capitals rest above ringed columns and are mounted on rosette bases flanking a leafage molding. Older gilt finish. Minor imperfections.
