Helen Frankenthaler ( 1928 - 2011 ) is an American Abstract Expressionist painter of a liberal Jewish background, and is a major contributor to the history of Post-War Modernist Painting. She exhibited her work for over six decades, spanning several generations of Abstract painters while continuing to produce vital and ever changing new art works.
Her work has been the subject of several retrospective exhibitions including The Museum of Modern Art New York, The Whitney Museum, The Jewish Museum, and The Los Angeles County Museum of Art. She has been exhibited worldwide since the 1950's, and was awarded The National Medal of the Arts in 2001. Her artworks are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
Beverly Sills ( 1929 - 2007 ) was an American Jewish Brooklyn born operatic soprano whose career peak was from the 1950's - 1970's. In her prime her technique was exemplary. She sang with scrupulous musicianship, rhythmic incisiveness and a vivid sense of text. After retiring from singing, she became the general manager of The New York City Opera, and later the chairwoman of Lincoln Center. She also lent her celebrity to philanthropic health, medical, the arts, and pro-peace related causes. Sills is remembered as a leader of New York's performing arts community, and a larger-than-life personality whose success on the opera stage was matched by her skills as an executive administrator and champion of worthy endeavors.
The Lincoln Center Collection and The Albert A. and Vera List Foundation began a creative program in 1962 of special poster works of art commissioned for festivals and special events at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City. Inspired by artist-designed posters Vera List had seen in Paris, she funded what would become The List Art Poster Program, chronicling how a now-famous New York institution was introduced to the public through art posters.
The List Art Posters Program has collaborated with the most admired and respected top Contemporary artists of our time including Helen Frankenthaler, Frank Stella, Ellsworth kelly, Andy Warhol, and Roy Lichtenstein among many others. Collaborating together to create artworks that have become highly desirable and award winning works of art in their own right. Many of these works have been exhibited internationally and are included in the collections of important museums worldwide.
