Supported by a tripartite base adorned with a large fleur del lys between scrolled legs over shaped pad feet, the candlesticks measure 34 inches tall. Two protruding rings of egg-and-dart and flowers embellish the slender main column, which is partially enveloped by an acanthus cup about halfway up. The flat, saucer bobeches, which contain iron prickets for holding the candles, sit on curled leaves, continuing the theme of nature. Typically, three-sided candlesticks of this size with prickets were used in churches to support large candles. They can still be used as a candle-based light source, but most collectors will utilize them as decorative accessories for mantels, center tables, or consoles. See less
