This archetypal French late 18th century Louis XV-style desk was given a distinguishing update in the 20th century: washing the pine construction in white paint and black pinstriping to accentuate the timeless silhouette. In its refreshing new look, this vanity or writing table might appeal to a range of tastes from Directoire to Dorothy Draper. The top surface extends over the apron with a smooth, matte finish and a few areas of patina (loss of pigment), offering a blank canvas for personalization to one’s needs. At the front of the desk, the small pen drawer is outlined in black, a theme continued throughout the swells of the apron down to the graceful curves of the cabriole legs.
