This example, an early Thonet production piece from the 1930s, exemplifies the design in its most honest and elemental form.

Constructed from two continuous pieces of tubular steel with a bent rectangular profile, the stool features a bold red lacquered seat — likely original. Originally affixed using the pre-Thonet method of screwing directly through the steel tubing and seat sides. Thonet versions replaced this with flange-mounted fasteners, making this variant an early and rare iteration, produced by Thonet but lacking a surviving label.

Exceptionally well-preserved in original condition, the stool retains its full chromed surface, with light age-appropriate patina and minimal wear to the seat. A true Bauhaus utility object — unadorned, durable, and enduringly relevant.
