The lantern structure of this vintage pendant is made entirely hand crafted using natural fibers such as thin canes, or sections of canes, bent and fixed together with rattan bands. Two decorative motifs are used to embellish the lantern structure, the first more linear and rigid in the upper part that recalls the roof of a pagoda is made up of sections of staggered cane slats. The second is characterized by curvilinear shapes, specular arabesque curls drawing hearts using thin canes bent in special molds. This decorative motif made of bamboo or other natural fibers is typical of the modern 20th century and widely used in the creation of furnishings for homes on the Italian and French Riviera. Each of the listed decorative elements produces splendid light effects on the walls, projecting designs that create a temporary wallpaper made of shadows. This pendant light was found by us on the Circeo Riviera in a seaside villa along with other similar items currently available in our selection. It was placed externally in the entrance patio.

The conditions of this pendant light are good, it has undergone a conservative restoration that included a deep cleaning and the application of a water-based product that preserved its surface and the patina of time. The electrical system has been completely replaced. We replaced the plastic lamp holders with burnished brass lamp holders and replaced the electrical cable with a dark brown cotton textile cable.
