A striking mid-20th century Vietnamese lacquer panel exquisitely inlaid with mother-of-pearl. This large decorative plaque features a pastoral scene of a rooster and hen with their chicks beneath blooming orchids, surrounded by butterflies in flight. The mother-of-pearl is intricately engraved and shaded to depict fine details in the feathers, flora, and insect wings, catching the light beautifully against the rich reddish-brown lacquer background.
This type of panel, often produced in and around Huế, Vietnam, reflects traditional craftsmanship rooted in imperial decorative arts. The back bears handwritten Vietnamese chalk notations indicating the piece's production or location reference—possibly a workshop or district in Ho Chi Minh City (Quận 5) and the former imperial capital of Huế.
