A rare find, this large Italian blue and white vase is made by the renown workshop of the Dolfi Company in the Tuscan town of Montelupo. ND Dolfi pottery pieces are highly regarded for their unusual and unique shapes, colors and techniques. This vintage vase is hand painted and decorated with local Italian idealized plant motifs or "Foglia de Montelupo" in a striking cobalt blue color on a highly glazed white background. This large vase looks excellent on a table filled with sunflowers, as and ornament alone for a shelf or mantel, and is large enough to easily be used as a floor focal point. It can be used outdoors on a patio or garden table as its striking blue and white pattern handles indoor or outdoors settings with ease.
Unusual in its shape for Italian pottery, the vase has a globed footed body with a slender, collared neck. Both the footed base and collared neck are banded in cobalt blue with additional cross hatch hand painted detail. the vases dimensions are 18" H x 10" W with a 7.5"base and 5" top opening width. The vase is signed by the Dolfi workshop in Montelupo, Italy. Pottery has been an Italian design staple for centuries. This piece continues that story with care and authenticity.
