A compelling mid-century modernist urban landscape composition, executed in oil onto canvas and dated 1956.

The painting captures a quiet residential street scene as observed from behind a structural steel framework – perhaps the interior of a train, or a station canopy. The painting offers a fragmented urban perspective, with rooftops, chimneys, and facades clustered together under a brooding sky. The central teal-blue support beam divides the composition, creating a dynamic interplay between structure and scenery.

Bold, sculptural brushstrokes and an expressive use of impasto lend a tactile richness to the scene. The palette leans cool, dominated by blue-greens and dusky greys, punctuated by muted maroons, browns, and pale yellows that bring warmth to the architectural forms.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary silver frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition. There is some light scuffing to the frame, but it is in good condition overall.
