Gorgeous blue amethyst (Azure) with a ruffled rim. In bas relief on the bottom are 3 open roses and 5 rosebuds. Along the outside are open roses alternating with double drapery columns.

This piece presents as both opaque and translucent depending upon lighting conditions-beautiful! Outside shaded light (see first set of photos) displays an opaque deep richness in iridescent shades of blue, green, purple. Inside sunset lighting (see last 4 photos) shows off a smokey azure -black and the translucent details shine.

Identification/History:
Note that both names (“American Beauties” and “American Beauty Roses”) were used in the catalogue extract shown below (see last photo) but the term “American Beauties” appeared consistently throughout "Catalog 101B" issued in 1915, and was probably the name actually given to the pattern range.
