Add a rare piece of American hardware to your favorite door with this ornamental and solid American bronze door knob of superior quality. This beautiful, passage knob with scrolling motifs and center rosette was patented by Joseph A. Ruff in 1870 and manufactured by The Metallic Compression Casting Company in Boston, MA and later by Russell & Erwin Manufacturing of New Britain, CT.
At the time, this bronze knob was considered to be one of the finest solid castings produced by the company and was very characteristic of Victorian ingenuity and quality craftsmanship prevalent throughout the 1870's. A highly desirable piece for the discerning decorator or avid hardware collector.
The knob is in excellent antique condition with a lightly polished patina. The surface shows normal wear from age and use. The knob includes a period bronze Russell & Erwin rosette and steel spindle.
Door knobs dimensions: 2-1/4”in diameter x 2” deep
Spindle Dimensions: 1/4" wide x 4" length
Bronze Rosette: 2” Dia.
