A late 19th century French terracotta garden urn, or planter. Bold form with large thick handles and yellow painted bead decoration. Stamped on base: Perrusson Ecuisse Saône-et-Loire. Good condition with minor chips on the base. Circa 1870-1890. Perrusson ceramics was founded in 1860, making bricks, tiles and decorative ceramics from locally quarried clay. Success was immediate and the company prospered, employing up to 750 workers. Perrusson’s tiles, ceramics and statues enjoyed national renown, and were exhibited at the Paris Universal Exhibition in 1889.
