This is a beautiful set of hand-painted plates from Deruta Italy. They have a marked back and are in excellent condition.
Deruta pottery, known for its vibrant majolica, is primarily made from earthenware (clay), specific.
This earthenware is then twice fired, once to create the base and then after glazing. The glaze, a key element, is typically a tin oxide glaze, which allows for the brilliant colors and designs characteristic of Deruta ware.
