It is by a well-known … Read more This is an original matted Art Deco story illustration print from a 1929 French periodical. It is by a well-known French artist, Jean-Gabriel Domergue. Jean-Gabriel Domergue's artistic talent catapulted his artistic career into the mainstream at the early age of 17 when he exhibited at the Salon of French artists. He is known worldwide for his stylized portraits of women. He invented a new kind of feminiity…slim, relaxed, gracious and always elegant, looking at the world with distinguished posture. Self-described as the “inventor of the pin-up”, he painted over 3000 portraits; these included nudes, fashion designs and portraitures of the aristocracy. His works in oil are very much in demand at art auction houses worldwide. This 1929 print is a seductive nude leaning against a balcony. Draped in lush flowing fabrics, she has kicked off her shoe and holds a "ribbon of champagne". Perhaps she's toasting (or perhaps spilling) her champagne glass on those below. It is a painterly image that is very much in the Art Deco style. Very clean, pristine print. Signed by the artist in the lower right. 8 ½ x 12 ¼ inches in size. Comes matted in a neutral tone 16 x 20 inch mat that works perfectly in a standard size frame. Please allow time for custom matting. See less
