This is an actual A/P artists proof that is printed and signed for corporate art department standard operating procedure that maybe less then ten are made for final approval. The next step is to proceed with the full color cover which appeared on the cover of a magazine which employed Norman Rockwell as an illustrator. Many advertisers employed illustrators who would later become enormously famous for their illustrations that at the time wasn’t considered art, nor were these men considered artists, they were illustrators who graduated art school with degrees to work for advertising companies and publishers. Norman Rockwell agreed to meet a budding artist and young soldier from Washington State stationed in western Massachusetts in 1960. With a furlough coming up, the soldier wrote to his idol, Norman Rockwell, asking if he might be allowed to visit. Receiving an unexpected invitation by mail, he traveled to Stockbridge and was introduced to the artist.
