This is an Exceptionally Nice, Quite Rare & Unusually Small Size Authentic Antique American Blue Decorated Stoneware Food Storage Jar. Circa Early 19th Century. It is Not Marked but Based on My Experience it Appears to be in the Approx 1/2 Gallon Capacity Size. It has No Maker Mark but I Believe that it was Made in Pennsylvania - Most Likely By Henry Remmey in Philadelphia. It has Classic American Salt Glazed Exterior and it is Rendered in the Early 19th Century "Ovoid" Style - Shape. It Has a Total of 4 Navy - Cobalt Blue Hand Decorated Features. The Interior is Done in a Light Ox Blood Brown Color. Back in the Day These Types of Stoneware Items were a Necessity in Most of Americas Farms and Household's and They were Made - Intended For Everyday Utilitarian Use. These Types of American Stoneware Items we Completely Hand Made out of Indigenous Clay on a Potters Wheel from Start to Finish and Therefore No 2 are Absolutely Identical. Jars of This Type were Typically Used to Store and Preserve Many Types of Liquids and Other Foods. It is in Excellent All Original Condition - Displays Nicely. It is in Strong and Sound Usable Condition. Only 1 Minor Imperfection - A Very Small; Chip at the Top Rim Outer Perimeter. No Cracks - No Repairs. It has a Couple Surface Glaze Imperfections ( Spots ) at the Bottom Base Perimeter but These Would Have Occurred in The Making - Kiln Firing Process. These Types of Stoneware Items were Fired in Very Large Kilns with Many Other Pieces at the Same Time and Cosmetic Flaws Such as These are Quite Common.
It Measures Overall Approx.
8 1/2 inches Tall.
6 3/4inches Wide - Long.
