A charming Japanese hexagonal Arita porcelain incense jar or censer dating late Meiji to early Taishō period (circa 1900–1925). Each of the six sides features finely pierced reticulated panels in a linked lattice motif, framed by hand-painted floral and gourd borders in cobalt blue underglaze. The lid is decorated with chrysanthemums and grasses, traditional seasonal symbols in Japanese art. This piece was intended to hold aromatic wood chips, dried herbs, or sachets, allowing scent to diffuse gently through the openwork panels. Raised on six stylized feet, it is a beautiful accent piece for a scholar’s desk, display cabinet, or as a unique gift.
