Stunning hand carved abstract Yariga Biiga female figure from Burkina Faso 1940’s. These traditional doll figures were used by children to prepare and care for a baby. This more unusual larger statues may have been passed on from mother to daughter and used in an altar. The head is a stylization of the gyonfo, a female forward long hairstyle sometimes thought to resemble an elephant trunk. Beautiful attractive highly stylized figure with beautiful rich patina, signs of age and use. Mounted on a removable iron display stand. See less
