This is a Japanese Bakelite desk inkwell from the Art Deco period.
It is in perfect condition and has clearly never been used.
These Bakelite objects are now highly sought after by collectors, especially when they are like this one, in perfect condition.
There is a maker's mark underneath (which I can't read) and on the front, an emblem or the company name.
Bakelite was invented in 1907 and quickly became popular for its insulating and aesthetic properties.
