An unusual matched pair of early 20th-century Regency Revival side tables combining occasional-table functionality with integral jardinières. Dating approximately to the 1920s–1930s, each table features a rectangular copper planter liner recessed directly into the top alongside a finished wood surface.
Crafted in mahogany and/or mahogany veneer, the tables have beautifully figured wood grain, slender turned supports, molded edges and two open lower shelves. Each table also incorporates a functional drawer, making the pair equally suited for use as end tables, bedside tables or decorative occasional tables.
The removable metal jardinière liners retain substantial age-related oxidation and verdigris patina and are fitted with simple ring handles for lifting. Their aged surfaces provide an appealing contrast to the warm mahogany finish and attest to their original use as plant containers.
Construction details include traditional dovetailed drawers and substantial wood casework characteristic of quality early 20th-century furniture. The restrained classical proportions and turned supports reflect the renewed interest in Regency and other historic English furniture forms during the period.
Particularly appealing as a matched pair, these tables offer an uncommon combination of storage, display shelving, tabletop space and integrated planters. They would work beautifully flanking a sofa or bed, or as accent tables in a library, conservatory, sunroom or traditionally furnished living space.
