Maker's tag can … Read more A Scottish Mahogany and Fruitwood inlaid Vitrine Demi-Lune Cabinet made by Paterson, Smith, & Innes of Edinburgh. Maker's tag can be found at interior of left drawer. Arching cornice affixed with an oval mirror, flanked by geometric inlay and corner finials, over an angled glass curio cabinet, framed by two offset columns. Two glass shelves make three levels and the interior lining of cream, diamond patterned fabric is in excellent condition. Two drawers sit above sturdy, elegant legs united by an under-tier shelf, the bun feet continue the geometric style with angular skirts.

We were ecstatic to find a Registered Design number at inside of the right door. This allows us to date this piece to exactly 1903, see photo for reference. In its 122 years of life, there is no doubt that this has been a well-loved, cherished piece to be in such excellent condition. A vitrine, a curio, or display cabinet; the names have changed over the years but its function has remained the same. A beautifully crafted piece of history; made to hold and proudly display one's most valued items or collections. Along with its beauty, this piece brings a part of proud Scottish history; from a time when Scottish craftsmen and artisans were at the forefront of the global Arts and Crafts Movement. See less
