Tengu (天狗) are mythical creatures from Japanese folklore, often regarded as protectors of mountains and temples, but also known as mischievous spirits with supernatural powers.

This mask is highly decorative, featuring deep carving details and original layers of red pigment that give it a powerful, almost theatrical presence. The teeth, eyes, and eyebrows are carefully accentuated, and the entire piece radiates the raw energy of a guardian spirit.

Due to its age, the surface shows signs of natural wear, and some of the original paint may flake off upon contact. However, this patina enhances the piece’s authentic appearance and adds to its wabi-sabi charm.

A rare find for collectors or a striking wall decoration in a Japanese or eclectic interior. See less
