This Alexander Calder very rare vintage 1970 Mid Century Modern " Spirale " fine art lithograph print custom framed Jacques Damase Gallery exhibition poster is an incredibly special and unique piece to add to your collection.
The lithograph print Modernist poster is published by The Jacques Damase Gallery in Bruxelles, Belgium. Printed in France in 1970 in an unnumbered limited edition by Litho Arts Paris. It features an artwork image created by the artist Alexander Calder titled " Spirale ".
Alexander Calder ( 1898 - 1976 ) was an American born Modernist artist. Although primarily known for both his innovative kinetic mobiles and monumental public sculptures, Calder also created important paintings, prints, theater set designs, jewelry design, tapestries, rugs, and political and commercial commissioned posters. Born into a family of artists, his work first gained attention in the 1920's in Paris, and was soon championed by The Museum of Modern Art New York, resulting in his first retrospective exhibition in 1943. His artistic talents were world renowned by the 1960's. Calder is credited with creating some of the most important Modernist artworks of The Twentieth Century.
Jacques Damase ( 1930 - 2014 ) was a French publisher, art historian, and venerable gallery owner. He created his publishing house at the age of 17, making him the youngest publisher in the world at the time. He published the works of Jean Cocteau, Jean Paul Satre, Paul Eluard, and Charlie Chaplin. His own books included studies on the art works of Braque, Chagall, Picasso, Calder, Max Ernst, Sonia and Robert Delaunay. Damase is one of the few publishers to have had exhibitions of his books in major international libraries and museums including The Centre Pompidou Paris. His famous gallery exhibited the artworks of Le Corbusier, Jean Cocteau, Alexander Calder, Jim Dine, Hans Arp, and Sonia Delaunay among others.
The rare out of print framed Modernist exhibition poster print measures 21 3/4" W X 30 1/4" H X 1 3/8" D.
It is custom framed with UV protective plexiglass in a Contemporary Modern recessed detail matte eggshell finish black metal frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.
It is in excellent " like new " condition. The poster print is in excellent " like new " clean vintage condition consistent with age, light signs of handling, and some light minor surface wear. It is brand newly custom framed and has never been displayed. Please see photos for condition reference. It is now being offered here for an excellent price.
