It was … Read more A fascinating French cheese platter or centrepiece in the shape of a leaf in coloured glazed majolica ceramic.
It was made between 1949 and 1952 in Vallauris, as indicated by the mark impressed on the bottom.
It has a glossy, multi-toned glaze finish, which creates a vibrant and artistic effect. The glazing features rich earth tones, predominantly brown, amber, and gold, blending into one another in a flowing, organic pattern.
The edge of the plate is wavy, giving it an irregular, natural shape, resembling a leaf with ruffled edges.
The centre of the plate has a twisted metal handle in a black finish, which makes it easy to carry or present.
Its large size, its design and the vibrant colours makes this platter an eye-catching piece to be used as a decorative object or to serve cheese, finger foods, desserts, or hors d’oeuvres.

The pottery of Vallauris born at the time of the Roman occupation was revived by Picasso with a new creative impetus to the pottery.
This resulted in the arrival of artists like Jean Marais and many others.
Vallauris became fashionable in the years 1950-60, and developed ceramics as art.
