Add bold charm and vibrant color to your space with this fabulous mid-century (or earlier*) ceramic Foo Dog—a classic guardian lion. A popular motif in Chinese art and culture, Foo Dogs (also known as Fu Lions or Shishi) are believed to ward off negative energy and bring protection to the home.
This expressive figure features traditional symbolic detailing, including a stylized mane, bulging eyes, and a wide, toothy grin—all rendered in a high-gloss glaze in vivid green, lemon yellow, cobalt blue, and light burgundy. The Foo Dog sits proudly on a geometric pedestal-style base in light brown glaze.
*There is evidence that this Foo Dog is from the 1920s; however, it was likely produced in China or Taiwan between the 1950s–1970s. This piece was originally created for export and remains a striking example of the era’s Chinoiserie décor trend.
