A lovely antique circa 1910s glass match striker with sterling silver rim and applied silver over copper art nouveau silhouette of a woman. In amazing condition for it’s age, no chips, cracks or damage. The sterling rim is in wonderful condition without dents or damage, just some small marks, though the hallmarks are so rubbed you can barely make out the edges of the symbols. The glass has a couple small internal spots as this style of striker often does, these are manufacturing color issues, not later damage.
This impressive striker weighs nearly 2.5 pounds and measures 3.5” tall by 3.5” wide. It took me about 12 tries to get a match to strike on the bottom of the striker, unfortunately our matches today are made to different (safer) environmental standards then they were 100 years ago so the striker is a little difficult to strike on with modern strike anywhere matches. If it’s your only striker it might be a little frustrating to use, but it would be perfect as the centerpiece of a collection surrounded by more functional strikers.
