This is a giclée print from an image originally captured in 1996 using a pinhole camera with a Polaroid back—a unique combination of low-tech and high-tech for the time. It was later enlarged and printed as a cyanotype in 2012. Cyanotype is one of the earliest photographic printing methods, known for its striking indigo-blue tones.
Pinhole photography, now often classified as “alternative photography,” is one of the earliest forms of photographic capture. There’s a quiet magic to the way these cameras render light and time. Sadly, the specific Polaroid film used for this image is no longer made—it was a wonderfully playful and experimental medium. I was introduced to these alternative processes while studying at the International Center of Photography in New York City, under the guidance of photographer Craig Barber.
Each print will be signed in pencil by the artist, Christine Kiebert-Boss.
Just to be safe, I say 3 weeks' lead time, but the print often ships faster.
